Landscape architecture advanced studio course at the College of Design where students designed and constructed a landscape architecture project on NC State campus. For the residents of the Art House dorm - our student team created schematic designs and came together to develop a final master plan for the site. Once the final plan was complete it was sent through a rigorous campus review. Once all of the design issues were resolved through class and University official consensus, the students moved into construction. This project required us to be on site digging electrical conduit channels, air-spading soil to ensure survival of 2 existing century oaks, or pouring concrete – and also required long wood shop and metal shop hours. Construction details had been drawn out, but changes were required while on site or in the shop. We adapted to our own change orders, and learned the importance of strong construction detailing.
